Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two armed robbers for launching a robbery operation at Damsalam street in Ajuwon area of the state.
The Suspects, Evans Iyam and Adedayo Taiwo were arrested on Saturday while on the robbery operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known in a statement issued and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
Oyeyemi said, the armed robbers carried out the robbery operation by shooting sporadically immediately they got to the street.
The Police Spokesperson explained that the robbery operation was carried out by a three man gang.
He explained further that, two members of the gang were apprehended in the robbery operation while the third one escaped with their motorcycle.
The PPRO disclosed that, a locally made short gun was also recovered from them.
Oyeyemi however noted that, the armed robbers confessed to have come from ishasi in Lagos State for robbery the robbery operation.
He said “The duo were arrested following a distress call received by the police in Ajuwon division that a three man robbery gang had stormed the street and shooting sporadically thereby thrown the whole street into panic.
“On receiving the distress call, the DPO Ajuwon division SP Andrew Akinseye quickly mobilized his anti robbery team and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but were hotly chased and members of the community and two members of the gang who came on a motorcycle were apprehended while the third one escaped with their motorcycle.
“Recovered from them is a locally made short gun.On interrogation, they confessed coming to the street from ishasi in Lagos State for robbery operation”.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the special anti robbery squads for discreet investigation.
The Police commissioner however ordered for a serious manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang.
