Ogun State Government on Thursday confirmed that only seven persons affected with COVID-19 remained at the state isolation centers .
The State Government maintained that, most of its COVID-19 patients were receiving treatment in their various homes.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker disclosed this while addressing newsmen shortly after receiving facemasks worth over N100 million from a Chinese Company on Thursday.
Coker stated that, the seven persons remaining at the isolation centers were patients that required oxygen or ventilation.
She claimed that, 97 percent of COVID-19 cases in the state were asymptomatic and mild diseases, noting that their isolation centers were not short of bed space.
The health commissioner explained that the state government is giving 300 COVID-19 patients home treatments
Coker explain further that, the state government had discharged over 400 COVID-19 patients in the category of home care.
She said “We are not short of bed spaces because as you know 97 % of our cases are asystematic and mild diseases and the NCDC directives now is home management for people with mild disease and asystomatic disease. So we have about 300 people in the community that are being managed as home care in a community and we are following them up and we discharged so far about 400.
“In the isolation center right now we have only seven patients as in patients, these are patients requiring oxygen or requiring ventilation. If you don’t require oxygen or you are asystematic you could be managed at home and we used that opportunity to actually educate their family members on how to protect themselves and not getting infected.
“We have enough capacity bed spaces. The expectation is the cases will rise because we do know that we have community spread and we have testing. When you look for something you will get positive result. So, the rise in numbers is due to increased sampling of people. So, we will still continue to have a rise in number until we reach our peak”.
