The Bayelsa State Government’s directive on mandatory wearing of face masks in public places recorded a huge success on Monday as many residents of Yenagoa, the state capital, complied with the order.

Checks showed high-level of compliance by residents, especially in public places such as banks, supermarkets, motor parks and inside commercial vehicles as well as tricycles, among others.

However, there were reports of alleged indiscriminate arrests of residents, who were not wearing face masks by some security operatives in front of their homes and around the streets, contrary to the government’s directive.

The government last Thursday declared that with effect from on Monday, wearing of face masks in public places were compulsory to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state.
