Ogun Police arrest Ekiti-based kidnappers for abducting daughter, shooting mother to death

Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested two kidnappers based in Ekiti state after abducting a young woman and shot her mother to death in Ogun state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun state ,DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated this in a statement on Wednesday .

Oyeyemi said Mariam Fagbohun was abducted by a six-man kidnapping gang in Ijoun, Yewa North local government on 21st August, 2020.

He further explained that the mother of the victim, a 50-year-old mother, Annah Fagbohun was subsequently murdered in the process.

According to PPRO, “Maraim Fagbohun runs a provision store and a beer parlor, when she closed from her shop ,while going home, she was abducted and in the process she raised an alarm, which called the attention of the people around including the victim’s mother.”

Oyeyemi, however said while the people around were trying to chase the abductors with the aim to safe her, the kidnappers shot into their midst and the bullet hit the victim’s mother who does on the spot.

“Distress call was made to the police, consequent upon which the DPO Egua division, Csp Kalejaiye Olarenwaju led his men to the scene and with the collaboration of members of the Community, they were able to rescue the victim and apprehended one member of the gang , Jimoh Fayemi a native of Omu-Odo in Ekiti State.

“Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-kidnapping section with a clear mandate that the rest members of the gang must be hunted for and brought to book.

“The team embarked on a technical and intelligence based investigation which led to the arrest of another member of the gang in Ekiti State , James Arowolo a 47-year old native of Obo-Ayegunle in Kwara State.”

The PPRO added that the duo during an interogation confessed to the crime ,claiming to be contracted by one man simply known as “Ade” and his friend known as ‘Doctor’ who live in the same neighborhood with the victim.

According Oyeyemi ,the suspects claimed they were contracted to come and swindle the victim of a huge sum of money.

” But having realised that the woman will not fall into their trap, they decided to kidnap her and demand for ransom”

He said items recovered from them are three single barrel guns, 12 live cartridges and face masks.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.

The PPRO said the Commissioner also ordered that the arrested ones be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
