The ifa priests in Egbaland has drum support for the youths’ agitation for a reform police force, describing it as a long over due agitation.
The association under the able leadership of Oloye Ifagbeminiyi Atanda, Baoku Oluwo ifa of Egbaland said, the demands for fundamental police reforms by the protesting youths are in order for their future.
Chief Atanda said this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The chief priest urged the Federal Government led administration by President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly wade into the demands of the youth protesters.
He further stressed that he expected President Buhari to have addressed the Nation by now inorder to douse the tension of the Nigerians.
He added, “our country has witnessed massive protests by youths in different cities for the past ten days, which were ignited by widespread disenchantment with the gross human rights abuses including harassment, intimidation, torture, extortion and extra-judicial killings of Nigerians by the police.
“The attitude of the police was a challenge that the youths have responded positively and courageously to and has triggered the commencement of the fundamental reform of the country’s policing system.”
He however promised that, ifa priests in Egbaland will continue to pray for the Nigerians and do the sacrifice that are needed for the progress and development of the Nation.
On his part, the Ojubona ifa of Egbaland, Oloye Onifade Ogundele Abere ifa, advised the youths not to allow the hoodlums, thugs or criminals hijack the protest so as not to fritter away the gains of the protests due to lack of moderation and strategic thinking.
He said, ” united we stand, divided we fall.”
Among those who were in attendance at the meeting are : Oloye Aregbesola Anipupo Oluwo ifa of Ogun state, Oloye Ifadimeji Biobaku Jegbe Sakosi onifa of Egbaland, Oloye Ifasola Akanbi Alara Onifa of Egbaland, Oloye Adeniji Aremu Araba onifa of Egbaland, Oloye Atanda Asegongo agbongbon onifa of Egbaland, Oloye Ifaniyi Oyedele Akoda onifa of Egbaland, Oloye Ifatobi Abati Aseda onifa of Egbaland and host of others.
