Ogun State Police command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected Eiye cult group leader in Ogijo, Sagamu Local government of Ogun State.
The cult leader, Akibu Tikare, 26, was reportedly arrested during a robbery operation between Gbaga and Kamalo area of Ogijo.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this to newsmen in a press release on Tuesday.
Abimbola said the arrest was made by Policemen attached to Ogijo division on Saturday 24th of October 2020 at a scene robbery.
The statement read in parts, “A notorious Eiye confraternity leader who has been on the wanted list of the Ogun State Command has been arrested by policemen attached to Ogijo division on Saturday 24th of October 2020 at a scene robbery.
“The suspect, 26yrs old Akibu Tikare was arrested following a distress call received at Ogijo division at about 9:30 pm that a group of armed robbers were operating between Gbaga and Kamalo area of Ogijo robbing people of their belongings at gunpoint.
“On receiving the information, the DPO Ogijo division, Csp Muhammed Suleiman Baba quickly led his men to the scene with some members of vigilante group where the suspect was arrested while other members of his group who he claimed they came from Ikorodu and Owutu area of Lagos State escaped.”
He added that some of the robbery victims have identified the suspect while the police recovered a locally made double barrel shotgun.
According to Abimbola, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun who directed the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence department for investigation, also ordered that the escaped members of the gang be hunted and apprehended.
