The Chairman of Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Chief Patrick Kehinde Oyatayo, has said that Governor Dapo Abiodun-led All Progressives Congress, APC’s Administration in the state is bringing the State greatly backward with his sluggish and shoddy style of governance.
Recall that the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the 2019 Governorship Election in the State fielded Hon. AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade, popularly known as Triple A, who was main political opponent of Governor Dapo Abiodun of APC, coming second in the last Gubernatorial Poll.
The APM Chairman noted that Governor Abiodun’s style of governance in the 21st Century falls below the standards of even the administration ran by late Chief Bisi Onabanjo and Chief Sesan Soluade as Ogun State Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively, going by the level and manner by which the Governor and his Cabinet run the State in terms of economic growth, infrastructure development and decision making.
Speaking at the Strategic Meeting of APM held ahead of Local Government Election at the State Party Secretariat located at Adatan Area of Abeokuta, the State Capital on Thursday, Chief Oyatayo explained that Ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun Government of APC had laid a good foundation of governance for Governor Abiodun and his Cabinet but the latter chose to jettison the governance template which is now doing a great disservice to the political growth and socio-economic development of the State.
He said, “Govenor Dapo Abiodun’s issue is laughable, because I have never seen any Governor in this State who has brought us backward like Governor Dapo Abiodun is doing. I have never seen a Governor that will be elected into Office and started the roads construction and reconstruction by reducing size and width of the roads constructed in last 40 years. That shows the mental capacity and exposure of Mr Governor and those people in his Cabinet.
“For example, the popular Elite Road in Abeokuta, the State Capital that has been constructed since 1979 by late Chief Bisi Onabanjo and Chief Sesan Soluade, now Governor Abiodun is reconstructing the road but reducing the size and width of the road, that shows that the Government is getting us backward, that was why I said that you cannot be reducing the road that has been constructed more than 40 years ago in 2020, they should ask themselves whether the vehicular traffic is increasing or reducing.”
While speaking on the party preparation ahead of Local Government Elections slated for next year, the APM Chairman stated that the political calculations on ground in the State show that APM will relaunch itself in the coming Local Government and ride on the division within Ogun APC and below-the-expectations performance of Governor Dapo Abiodun to win Chairmanship and Councillorship seats in the poll.
To ensure that APM win as many seats as possible in the election, Oyatayo stated that there wouldn’t imposition of any form as the Party Leadership had directed the members and possible aspirants to go back to their various political wards and start the work towards winning the seats in the coming Local Government Election.
