The Ogun State Police command has confirmed the assassination of a Head of Department at the D.S Adegbenro Polytechnic Itori, Engr. Mufutau Waliu by unknown gun men.
The police also said it has commenced hunting for the killers to ensure justice.
Olayemi, 35, who before his death headed the Electrical and Electronic Department was reportedly shot several times on his way out of the school on Tuesday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi when contacted described the incident as a case of assassination.
“It is a case of assassination. They did not touch anything in his vehicle. It is like he was trailed to Itori.
“The CP has ordered investigation by Homicide section. We are working assiduously to ensure that the killers are brought to book,” Oyeyemi said.
The Head of the Public Relations at the institution, Yinka Adegbite in an interview that the police have taken over the investigation.
He added that the remains of the deceased have been laid to rest in the Muslim way.
In his words, “He closed from work yesterday as he was coming out from the campus, the report we heard was that he was waylaid by some gunmen. They shot him several times. When we heard we reported to the police.
“The institution’s management with the cooperation of the police immediately took him to the State Hospital, Ijaye. On getting there, he was pronounced dead.
“Of course we are yet to ascertain what happened. We have left the police to do their job. They will do their investigation normally and they will come out with their findings later.”
