The Ogun state panel of judiciary set up to probe the police brutality has dismissed a petition of one Engineer John Abidemi on five million naira allegedly taken by Police Officials due to lack of substantial evidence.
The Chairman of the Panel, Hon. Justice Solomon Olugbemi who advised Abidemi to quit pursuing the case of N5 million due to his lack of substantial evidence to back up his claim, thereby, dismissed the case.
Abidemi who disclosed his experience after allegedly being brutalized by Police Officials in March 2015 following an allegation by his former Landlord.
He said his former landlord reported him to the police claiming of beating him up while requesting for his rent.
He said “the police turned the whole thing around and said it was a case of assault and a case of assault is a criminal case.
“They arrested me, they wanted to jail me and I was arrested up on two occasions, the second time I was taken to court and the judge gave a judgment that I should either be remanded in prison or I should pay a fine and I opted for the fine”.
Abidemi further disclosed that while the case was still at the court, his former landlord and police official broke into his house with the intent of ejecting him forcefully and his properties were thrown out and N5 million was taken from my wardrobe”.
“I was in Abuja then and when I came back I saw that my properties had been thrown out and people had stolen alot of my things, properties I can’t account for anymore and N5 million entrusted to me by the President of the company I work with was stolen”.
“My properties were thrown out for two days”.
Abidemi added that he worked with Standard Metalogical Company which closed down after the event of the missing N5 million which led to the loss of his job.
