One Juwon Mumuni, a 35-year-old betting agent in the Obafemi Owode area of Ogun state has been reportedly killed by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.
PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that Juwon was hit by a vehicle while the officers were reportedly chasing smugglers of rice.
A legal counsel who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES on behalf of the deceased’s family, Ganiyu kusanwo, said the officers were allegedly driving recklessly before hitting Juwon.
He further said, “He was going to the main road on his motorcycle, which he uses as another source of income for his family
“He was at the junction, when Custom officers who were chasing rice smugglers and was crushed by the van of the custom officers when the driver lost control as he was driving recklessly in which juwon’s body was badly damaged but he wasn’t dead.
“He sustained serious injuries that affected his ribs and his legs were dragged on the ground which led him to bleed at great length. His face is also damaged beyond recognition.”
Mr. kusanwo explained that the officers helped take Juwon to the hospital but left him there when they discovered that he had died already.
“He was taken to ijaye State hospital by passersby but was denied treatment and later taken to Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta. He died on his way to FMC.
“The Custom Officers dropped him at FMC and ran away”, he said.
Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of the NCS Ogun command 1, Ganiyu Oloyede said he was not aware of the incident.
