The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), says Nigerian government has not done enough to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic in the country .
Chairman of NIM, Abeokuta chapter, Emmanuel Adebayo, said this during this year annual Day lecture held in Abeokuta .
Adebayo advised the government to ensure that many Nigerians are trained to avoid people losing their jobs due to the effects of COVID-19 in the country .
He said the NIM chartered ,Abeokuta organised the lecture for the purpose of training members, saying, ” and here is the pandemic, we all need to learn, unlearn and relearn because most of the things we hold in the past are no longer relevant and as managers, we have to be relevant at all times.”
He added that the institute encourages members to learn various skills that will make them to be relevant.
While advising the general public , Adebayo said both men and women should learn to increase on the skills.
According to him, most of the skills we learnt in the past are becoming irrelevant and for us to be relevant in the new dispensation we need to train ourselves and learn, we should not think that what we have learnt in the past will be enough otherwise we will be left behind
He said “the Nigerian government has not done enough, they may be doing their best due to several circumstances and obviously their best is not enough so there is need for them to find a way of pushing the effect of pandemic most importantly to see that majority of the people will be trained.”
In his lecture , titled “Re-inventing the professional manager amidst a pandemic” the speaker who is also Chief Enabling Officer, Femi Williams advised the members to build an environment of collaboration that facilitates contributions from subordinates and superiors.
He also advised the members to adopt technologies and use it for self-development and transactions
He said “I admonish the Institute and the Abeokuta Chapter in particular to take the lead in facilitating the development of its members through expository materials, workshops, skills acquisition/adaptation/upgrade to accelerate the re-invention that is a Critical Success Factor at this time.”
