The Nigeria Union of Mine Workers, Ogun state chapter has forced a Quarry Chinese company, Ding Xing to reduce the price of granite being sold to its agents.
The mine workers led by its chairman, Alhaji Fasiu Abiola on Thursday stormed the Ding Xing Quarry to express their displeasure over the increment of the price of granite.
The union blocked the entrance of the company for hours and put activities on hold for hours.
However, the management of the Quarry led by Sulaiman Ibraheem later met with the leadership of NUMW.
During the meeting which was held at premises of the company, the NUMW chairman condemned the frequent increase in the price of granite without considering the agents.
Alhaji Abiola noted that the union will not take it lightly with quarry companies across the state that want to make life difficult for its members through their price.
In his own reaction, the manager, Sulaiman Ibraheem explained that the company is doing everything to ensure they satisfy the union.
Ibraheem noted that the grievances of the union has been passed across to the leadership of the company abroad.
The company however at the end of the meeting agreed to reduce six hundred naira from the price of granite for the agents that belong to the union.
The company also promised to provide other incentives for the agents.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, the NUMW chairman commended the company for agreeing to reduce the price.
He added, “for over seven months, they are just increasing the granite product at their will. It is almost every week they are increasing their price, but today we told them that enough is enough.
“We thank management of the Ding Xing Quarry. It is better we Jaw Jaw than war war because they listen to us and they remove N300 from what they are selling which the union is still okay with it and we will continue our negotiations from there.
“The other Quarries have issued new price list, but the executive of the union, we have decided that we are not going to allow one naira to be added to the price.
“We will give them the confrontation if they go ahead with it. we are negotiating and after negotiation, there will be confrontation.”
