The Nigeria Union of Mine Workers, Ogun state chapter has protested against the incessant price increment of granite by Quarry companies across the state.
The union led by its chairman, Comrade Fasiu Abiola stormed the HOI quarry company along Ajebo road to expressed displeasure over what they described as “plans to push agents/ suppliers out of business”.
For two days, the union blocked the entrance of the company and put activities in the Quarry on hold.
However, the management of the Quarry led by Olasunkanmi later met with the leadership of NUMW.
At the meeting, Olasunkanmi claimed the chairman of the Quarry is out of the country.
He however appealed to the union to give them some days so as to communicate whatever agreement they have with them.
There was an agreement between the union and the management that activities in the Quarry will remain on hold untill there is amicable resolution.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, NUMW chairman noted that the union will make sure there is a reduction in the price of granite sold by the quarry company.
Alhaji Abiola added, “the HOI management, the union are consulting them about PPE, condition of service, incessant increment of granite product.
“Series of meeting that we held with them, they did not follow what we discussed in the meeting. But, today we are able to reach agreement. This is an indigenous quarry, it belongs to Nigeria and the union is trying to do all necessary that this quarry will continue to remain and thrive in this business.
“This business is our own because majorly all these quarry companies are owned by the Chinese. All the support, all the necessary things that this quarry need, the union is ready to give them back up.”
