ELEVEN days after the Ogun state House of Assembly removed Dare Kadiri as the deputy speaker over alleged gross misconduct, his name still appears holding same position on all websites that belong to the state government.
PLATFORM TIMES observed that Kadiri’s name was boldly written as the Deputy speaker of the state assembly on the two websites.
Kadiri who represents Ijebu North Constituency 2 at the Assembly was on March 4, 2021 impeached as the state deputy speaker following a motion for his impeachment, which was endorsed by 19 lawmakers out of the 26-member Assembly.
Kadiri was accused of insubordination to the Office of the Speaker who was acussed of un-authorised self-approval of expenditures.
Kadiri was also acussed of involving an external body in the affairs of the House without exploring an internal mechanism for the amicable resolution of issues, abuse of office, threat to lives and properties, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and attempted murder, committed in his constituency.
Before his impeachment, Kadiri had earlier been arrested and detained by the Ogun state Police command for allegedly leading suspected hoodlums to invade residence of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, in Oru-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
After Kadir was released, the Ogun state Assembly set up an ad-hoc Committee to investigate an allegation of gross misconduct leveled against the former deputy speaker.
The committee faulted some of the activities of the Kadiri and a report endorsed by 19 lawmakers conveying their unanimous confirmation in support of the recommendation of the ad-hoc committee’s report, which they noted had found Kadiri guilty of acts of gross misconduct and therefore endorsed his removal from office as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
After Kadiri’s removal, Akeem Balogun repersenting Ogun Waterside Constituency in the State was elected the new Deputy Speaker.
But, findings by PLATFORM TIMES showed that while Kadiri remain the deputy speaker on the government official websites, Balogun who is the new deputy speaker was just an ordinary floor member.
Also, the official website of the state assembly, it was boldly written that Kadiri is the deputy speaker of the Assembly.
Balogun’s profile on the website however reads, “Member (Ogun Waterside). 08133853396.”
PLATFORM TIMES however observed that the website was last updated about eight months ago.
Meanwhile, Kadiri has described his removal as “grossly unconstitutional and illegal” promising to challenge it in court.
