Two nurses have lost their lives while 16 others sustained injury in a road accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace with the number plate OG 49 A07 which was said to have lost control and summersaulted several times while at a bend.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Trafric Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, one of the injured persons explained that the driver was over speeding and as well using his cellphone while driving at a bend, lost control and summersaulted several time.
He said “also, an eye witness narrated that the vehicle lost control as it approached a bend, due to over speeding and use of cell phone while driving”.
He added that the rescue team has taken the victims to Hope hospital, Adigbe, while the dead body has been deposited at ijaye morgue.
Akinbiyi further narrated that the occupants in the bus were nurses who were all heading to a party to honour the matron in one of hospitals in Abeokuta.
“The two dead victims are also nurses in One Ademola Hospital and General Hospital, Ijaiye.
“While TRACE Corps commiserates with the family of the victims, motorists are again enjoined to avoid over speeding, especially during the rain, as well as the use of mobile phone, due to its distraction and attendant consequences”.
