The Ogun state police command has revealed how an informant,Babuga Abubakar misled two suspected kidnappers to kidnap the two female students, that the students Olabisi Onabanjo University Ayetoro campus.
The Policve said the students were not the actual targets ,but a woman who is a wholesale recharge card dealer in the area.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state ,Edward Ajogun paraded the suspects who also included the community leader in the state, Chief Tajudeen Omotayo and suspected armed robbers at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta .
The police also paraded a suspected kidnapper who sold AK47 rifle to undercover police operative for N1 million .
Ajogun while parading the suspected kidnappers of the two female students of OOU who were abducted March 14,2021 at their hostel said the suspects were apprehended two days after the students were released .
The police boss also added that the suspects confessed that they were behind the kidnap of a doctor and a nurse on the Abeokuta-Imeko Road.
The suspects ,Umaru usman, Mohammed Bello ,and Babuga Abubakar, 40 reportedly confessed to a series of kidnap cases in Ayetoro, Olorunda and Imeko areas.
Ajogun said “They admitted to the kidnap of the two Olabisi Onabanjo University students in Ayetoro.
“They confessed that a female doctor and a nurse that were kidnapped on 7th of April 2021 along Olubo village along Abeokuta -Imeko road by them .
They also confessed that the kidnap of One Mrs .Yemi Ojedapo at Olodo village,who painfully they had to kill because she recognized them.
“One Babuga Abubakar who is their informant confessed that he supplied information on victims to the gang for ease operation.
“He also confessed that on the kidnap of the two female students, that the students were not the actual targets ,but a woman who is a wholesale recharge card dealer in the area.”
The Commissioner of Police also paraded two suspected kidnappers behind the abduction of the community leader in Imope .
Omotayo who was abducted March 20, 2021 on his way from a meeting in Ijebu-Ode was later releases after an undisclosed amount was paid to the kidnappers .
The Commissioner of Police paraded Nura Bello, 27 and his partner Abubakar Bello ,26, said they have all confessed to the abduction of the Chief and also to several cases of kidnap in the Ijebu area.
According to the police boss , investigations are still on ,saying , other members of the gang will be arrested as soon as possible.
Also parading a 28-year-old suspected kidnapper ,Haruna Sanni while attempting to sell his AK47 rifle to a police undercover for N1 million .
The Police Commissioner said the suspect was arrested following a tip off last month .
He said the command ordered a police officer to monitor the suspect and pretended to be a vendor.
He said “the suspected kidnapper and the policeman agreed at the price of N1 million .
“He deposited #200,000 to show his commitment and promised to balance him on the same day. He was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation he confessed that he was a.member of a six-man gang and that he decided to firm his own gang because the gang leaders was find of giving him peanuts at the end of operations .”
Others paraded were suspected armed robbers arrested in some parts of the state .
Ajogun said four suspected armed robbers Ogunaike Phillip, 26, Isaiah Onifade, 22, Hassan Sodiq,20, and Qudus Rasaq, 20.
Philip and Onifade were arrested April24, 2021 while attacking a Poiny.Of Sales shop owned by one Rafiat Wahab.
Sodiq and Razaq were arrested on April 17,, 2021 at about 9:30pm at the Ipamesan area of Sango-Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
