No fewer than 300 Okada Riders in Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas of Ogun state on Thursday benefited from the free fuel scheme of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Olumide and Stephanie Aderinokun Foundation.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the two filling stations where the scheme was taken place were besieged by the riders as soon as the news spread that free fuel was being dispensed at the outlets.
The free fuel scheme for the Okada riders was launched at Yerevan Petrol Station beside old Wema Bank Office at Lafenwa and later at Oyinkansola Petrol Station, Onikoko-Panseke with the riders forming a queue to register for N500 worth of petrol.
The beneficiaries decorated their bikes with the Foundation’s stickers, expressing joy and thanking the founder of the Foundation, Chief Olumide Aderinokun for the charitable gesture.
The outlets were turned into a carnival of sorts as the beneficiaries hailed Chief Aderinokun who is the Akinruyiwa of Owu Kingdom.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiaries at the Lafenwa centre, Mr. Tajudeen Ayinla expressed gratitude to the Foundation, praying for long life and posperity for the founder of the Foundation
“This kind of gesture is very rare in Nigeria of today. Nobody cares anymore. This is a rare demonstration. We are very grateful. God will answer his prayers and grant him long life and prosperity, ” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Director of the Foundation, Hon. Abiodun Ogunremi said the initiative was part of Chief Aderinokun’s ways of reaching out to the vulnurables in the society.
“This will go a long way in assisting the riders. The present economic hardship has thrown many of them out of their business. This gesture will bring many of the riders with no money to fuel their bike back to business.
“I am appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to emulate this laudable initiative of Chief Aderinokun so as to make lives better for the needy in the society,” Hon Ogunremi posited.
Olumide & Stephanie Aderinokun Foundation has commissioned 15 modern borehole projects in Ogun Central Senatorial District and it is committed to doing more for the people.
