A Non-governmental Organization, Ray of Hope Community Foundation on Friday embarked on a programme to enlighten parents in the need to educate their children on puberty stage before becoming of age.
The Foundation founder, Mrs Taiwo Adebanjo at the event themed:”My Body, My Responsibility and Pride”, noted that parental guardians and teachings about puberty will prevent children from indecency when they grow up.
Mrs Adebanjo made the appeal at the inter school competition organised by the foundation held at the Women Development Center in Abeokuta.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Mrs Adebanjo stressed the need for early education about adolescent stage by the parent or guardian to their children.
The founder emphasized that parents should maturely educates their children on sex education.
The NGO founder stated that the essence of the event is “to make the children know about their body, menstruation, puberty level of life, and to prevent them having unwanted pregnancy and secure them from having unsafe abortion. As this adolescent stage is a discovery stage, as many of them didn’t have adequate knowledge on this stage”.
She also noted that the foundation is reaching out to orphans and other children that may be exploited if care is not taken.
“We are also working on orphans and vulnerable children as well, we have about 3,000 orphan children, that we are supporting one way or the other. The support is always base on their needs, it may be on education or other things and we attached some of them family and a shelter, and we give them some psycho-social support till they get over their problems. So, as to prevent them not become nuisance in the community”, she added
Schools present at the event include:Methodist High School Ewekoro, St Peter’s college, Abeokuta, Ifo High School, Ifo, Premier Grammar School, Abeokuta North Local Government, Africa Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, Pakoto High School, Ifo, Otori Comprehensive High School, Ewekoro and Papalanto High School, Ewekoro.
Also present were the Vice Chairman, Transition Committee, Ifo Local Government Area, Alhaji Nurudeen Matanmi, who extolled the foundation, stressed that the training was indeed fundamental and impacting.
Alhaji Matanmi said, “We have invited partisan to the program as we have seen that the information passed sink into their heads and some of them have been able to trained younger ones. And to emulate good work of others not to go and get unwanted pregnancy, and they should not proceed on having abortion”.
The Vice Chairman however summoned other Non-governmental Organizations to be emulous of the nation building training programme for children put forward by The Rays of Hope Community Foundation.
Similarly, a school counselor from Methodist High School, Arigbajo Ifo, Mrs. Fowosere while speaking also commended the foundation’s workshop.
Fowosere noted that the training will help students to know about themselves in preventing social menace choking the Nigeria society.
“We have increased number of students registering for the program, as many of them are able to know much about themselves and keep themselves safe from all sorts of molsestion, rape as well”, she stated.
