The Screening Committee, Obafemi Owode Local Government has debunked the report that a chairmanship aspirant, under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was charged with “certificate forgery “.
According to the Committee led by Chief Kola Sorinola, the “false and misleading” report is said to have been written by one Comrade Samson Adekunle from Asipa Village of Obafemi Owode Local Government.
The screening committee denied the accusation that it presented any letter alleging the APC aspirant of “certificate forgery”.
The Screening Committee also noted that the letter was never issued by its Secretary, nor by any members of the Committee.
In a rejoinder signed on the 30th of May, 2021 by the Screening Committee Chairman, Obafemi/Owode LG, Comrade Clement Adeniyi, declared that the Committee has no hand in the story.
According to Comr Adeniyi, “Our attention has been drawn to a libelous story written and posted on different social media platforms by one Comr Samson Adekunle from Asipa Village of Obafemi Owode Local Government, where the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Obafemi Owode Local Government Chairmanship Screening Committee headed by our Leader, Chief Kola Sorinola was indicted in order to drag the screening Committee Chairman, the entire members of the committee and the committee’s report through the mud”.
Comr Adeniyi added the report is to mislead the people, as the writer did not “research the power and responsibilities of the committee on the screened Chairmanship aspirants before polluting the public with falsehood, erroneous and fallacious claims against the committee and its Chairman”.
The Screening Committee noted that its “function is to screen all the aspirants which were 12 in number, and not DSS whose functions include: Prevention, Detection and Investigation of criminalities.
“Hence, we will like to educate him and others who might have believed the falsehood on the responsibilities and power of the Screening Committee.
“We’re according to the Party higher Authority, to request for the aspirants’ necessary credentials such as: Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC), academic certificates, Permanent voter’s card, Party membership card etc”, the Committee enlightened.
Furthermore, Comr Adeniyi added that, “As a committee, the Party did not authorize us to investigate any aspirant as per the documents presented to us or otherwise.
“The Party will further investigate all aspirants and every document presented”.
The Screening Committee also restated that it did not issue any report alleging certificate forgery with the reason that it is not its function.
“Meanwhile, it is important to categorically state that as the Secretary of the Screening Committee, I did not write any academic institution to investigate the genuinity of academic certificate of any aspirant reason, I was not given such power and authority to do so.
“I therefore wish to clear that my name was used by some unscrupulous persons to draft a letter in respect of this, and further used my appellation to make it looks real”.
Comr Adeniyi added that, “meanwhile, on the 17th May, 2021, the Screening Committee Chairman, Chief Kola Sorinola received a petition and in the presence of the Local Government Party Leaders, during a Leaders’ meeting held at the Assembly Quarters of the Hon. Member representing the Local Government State Constituency, Hon. Damilola Kayode Soneye same day, 17th May, 2021 put a call through the Deputy Registrar of the academic institution to confirm the authenticity of a letter written to the committee in response to the sent letter by these set of people where names and appellation of the Screening Committee’s Secretary were used.
“To the surprised of the Leaders, the Deputy Registrar when asked by the Committee Chairman Chief Kola Sorinola, if she wrote, Signed and sent a letter confirming an aspirant did not graduate from the institution said “No she did not write, sign and send such letter”. This is the length at which the committee can react. Thus, further investigations are left for the Party Leaders and Elders.
“Having explained all these, the Screening Committee on behalf of the entire good people of Obafemi Owode Local Government and its environ, advised those who derive joy in politics of bitterness and dirty politics to change their ways and believe in the saying that, ” Que Sera, Sera, Whatever Will Be, Will Be”! We therefore urge members of the public to ignore the mislead and delude story piled up by the faceless Com. Samson Adekunle. As every necessary actions are ongoing to present to the Party faithfuls and good people of the Local government a befitting Local Government Chairmanship Candidate”,
