Ogun state government has told some residents who said they would not leave their residences that are flood prone in the state to be prepared to carry their cross.
The government said it would not force them out of the danger zones after it had warned them to vacate their residences so as to avoid being caught up with flooding between July and September .
The Special Adviser to the governor on Environment, Oka Oresanya said this as the state government was preparing for another round of flooding coming up on September .
When asked whether the government would eject the residents who are adamants at the danger zones or not , Oresanya said “we are not going to force them . Except those who built on the River canals on our drainage channels are those that we are going to give them time to move because they are there illegally.
” We have marked their buildings . But, the other people who are not there legally and they have built on the areas where there will be flood and you refuse to leave.
” if anything happens they are not going to blame government , they are not going to say government should come and rescue them after we have warned you .
“All the same, we have established Emergency flood Management unit the numbers are there .
” They can call even, you are adamant you still dont want to leave, we will still not leave you for flood to kill you, we will come and rescue you.
“The numbers are there 24 hours , we will still come and rescue you , you will not say we have not warned you .
“Our duty is to warn people . we must let people know what can happen and warn them of what will happen Those that refuse to leave is their choice.”
