Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun state including the former governor of the state Aremo Segun Osoba were conspicously absent at the Local government poll in the state.
Other powerful leaders of the party in the state ;senators representing Ogun Central ; Ogun East and Ogun West, Ibikunle Amosun , Lekan Mustapha and Tolu Odebiyi respectively were also absent at the poll.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the decision of Osoba and others to shun the council polls rattled the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun’s camp .
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that a few other members of House of Representatives from the state stayed away from the elections .
Attempts to get the reasons for Osoba’s decision not to be part of the election despite his status in the party could not be ascertained .
But, a source reliably hinted that it was a signal to the governor on the manner of the emergence of the candidates of the party .
PLATFORM TIMES however gathered that the three Senators stayed away from the election at the instance of Amosun who is the leader of the camp.
Amosun who was around for the recently held Eid-el Adha left the state a few days after the Sallah to avoid being caught up with the election .
It was also gathered that Odebiyi who held an empowerment programme on Thursday followed Amosun’s suit and left the state a few days to the election .
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that Mustapha who had been with Amosun did not take the election as a priority as he did not come home to also avoid participating in the election .
Osoba who is the leader of the party in the state could not be found at his polling ward in Igbore ,Abeokuta South.
Also, check at Amosun polling ward in Ita-Iyalode ,Abeokuta showed that he did not appear to cast his vote .
Others who shunned the council poll were Mustapha who usually cast his vote in Ijebu-Igbo .
Odebiyi could not be seen at his Iboro polling unit during the election .
A source hinted PLATFORM TIMES said the decision was to protest against the decision of the governor on how he settled for the candidates of the party during the primaries .
The Source said “from the nomination and selection of candidates, they have been schemed out. And what happened in the previous administration is happening again when the three Senators would be schemed out by the governors .
“Similar thing has happened ,he(Odebiyi) is now moving with Amosun . The three Senators are out of his(Abiodun) camp . Amosun and Tolu Odebiyi went together to visit President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday .
“Odebiyi was the only Senator in (Abiodun) camp. Amosun has a strong ambition and has the money to press the mussles .
He (Odebiyi) was around on Thursday for an empowerment programme and left afterwards .”
