A chieftain of the Afenifere ,Dr. Femi Okurounmu has warned former president Goodluck Jonathan not to take the offer of presidential ticket rumoured to be given by the All Progressives Congress.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that there were plans by some cabals in the party to bring back Jonathan who had governed the country on tbe platform of People’s Democratic Party .
It could not be ascertained whether the former president had joined the APC secretly or not following his frequent visits at the Ask Rcok Villa and his cordial relationship with the president, Muhammadu Buhari .
Responding to the question ,Okurounmu described the alleged moves as a speculation .
He said ” I cannot believe that, I just consider it a rumour or a speculation that they want to bring him back. You know people fly all sort of rumours around.
“So, presently, I find it very difficult to believe. If that is true that they really want to bring him back to be president, if he falls for that, he will lose my respect.
” Up till now, I have a lot of respect for him. He will lose my respect because this is not the kind of regime that should bring him back to come and be the president.
” I think they just want to rubbish him.My advice is that he should not listen to them. Already, by the way he handed over power without any contest and so on, he has won the respect of the international community.
“They gave him an assignment. He’s one of the most respected former African presidents. I think he should stick to that; that’s enough for him to live on.”
