The New Nigeria People’s Party has tackled the chairman of Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission, Babatunde Osibodu over the claim that the Electoral Tribunal received only one petition against the just concluded Local Government election in the state.
The Ogun State chairman of NNPP, Olaposi Oginni while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta described the claim by the OGSIEC boss as untrue and misleading.
It would be recalled that Osibodu last week said only one petition has been received by the tribunal set up to consider election petitions.
Osibodu said OGSIEC had successfully conducted ‘peaceful’ election into the 20 local government areas and 236 wards of the state.
But, Oginni at the press briefing insisted that NNPP submitted 20 petitions to the tribunal against the LG polls held in the state.
The NNPP chair added that OGSIEC received the copies of the petition from the party with its official stamp.
He also showed the newsmen the received copies of the petitions stamped by the OGSIEC.
He further said, “We were highly surprised that Osibodu came to press and said that he has only got only one petition.
“We will show the press men the petitions that we have served OGSIEC that they received with their own stamp.
“For Babatunde Osibodu to tell the whole world that they receive only one petition, then something is wrong somewhere. It is either whether he himself did not know what he was doing in that office or maybe he was not conversant with the reality around him.”
Oginni also disclosed that the party has set up machineries to ensure the victory of NNPP in the 2023.
The NNPP Chairman stressed that the party will take over power from the Dapo Abiodun-led APC government in 2023.
He added,”I want to say it here that NNPP are ready and set to take over and we shall take over from this incompetence APC administration.
“We are going to defeat them; 2023 is around the corner and that is why we are here today to inaugurate four standing committees that will start to work towards the victory of NNPP come 2023.
“To start ahead is to be ahead. We are starting ahead because we know we can defeat them and we are ready to defeat them.
“The NNPP governor is ready to succeed governor Dapo Abiodun come May 29, 2023.
“I want to charge all of us that it is time for us to start to work very hard. People of Ogun state are ready for new thing to happened, they are ready for NNPP.”
