As APC weighs options
Despite the obvious crisis bedeviling the All Progressives Congress in Ogun state , the party leader in the state , former governor Segun Osoba had maintained a deafening silence on the matter .
PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that the elderstatesman decided to keep a sealed lip over the crisis so as not to be accused of being biased against either of the factions .
The National leadership of the APC is said to be in a serious dilemma over who should be in charge of the party in Ogun state .
The APC which is being run by caretaker committee is divided into two factions loyal to both the current governor , Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor , Ibikunle Amosun .
While the caretaker committee led by Chief Yemi Sanusi has switched its allegiance to Abiodun, the suspended elected state executive led by Chief Derin Adebiyi had its allegiance tied to Amosun .
Amosun who governed the state for eight years on the platform of APC had been in charge of the party but , lost the grip of the structure to Abiodun when the ousted national Chairman of the party ,Adams Oshiomhole sacked Adebiyi led exco ahead of the 2019 election .
This development gave the room for Abiodun to take over the party shortly after he won the governorship election .
Almost three years after, the battle reared its ugly head which led to the creation of two factions .
The two factions ahead of 2023 election, held parallel ward Congresses in the state and submitted the results of same to the national leadership .
Several attempts to resolve the crisis by the appeal committee set up by the national for the state failed .
The appeal which held its sitting in Abeokuta called for petitions from the aggrieved members in the state and got two joint petitions .
PLATFORM TIMES had reported that the petitions were submitted by all the chairmen of the party in the local government areas of the state and the other was submitted by Senator Tolu Odebiyi representing Ogun West on behalf of Amosun group .
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the appeal panel which agreed with the petitioners on the isuses raised left the state without resolving the crisis .
PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that the national leadership ,having received the report of the panel, expressed its confusion over the matter .
Part of the grouses of Amosun group was that Abiodun camp did not buy the forms before the stipulated period .
According to a source , the Abiodun camp bought the nomination forms after the stipulated period . The gesture ,it was believed ran foul of the party constitution .
This , according to Amosun camp is enough reason to disqualify the loyalists of Abiodun from contesting the ward congress executives .
It was further gathered that rather than buying the form individually , Abiodun camp paid the money in a lump sum .
But, the Abiodun camp was however banking on the strength of his office as governor and the office of the vice president ,Yemi Osinbajo .
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that while Osinbajo was said to be the pillar of Abiodun in the fight , Amosun was banking on the strength of the president , Muhammadu Buhari.
