The 45-year-old mother of two, Kafayat Lawal who was arrested by the police in Ogun State for stabbing her 17-year-old daughter, Ayomide Adekoya, to death has blamed anger for her action.
The Ogun state Police Command had in July 29 arrested Kafayat following a report that the suspect locked her two daughters in a room where she beat and injured them with broken bottle.
But speaking with PLATFORM TIMES , Kafayat confesssd that it was anger that led her killing her own daughter.
The emotion-laden single-mother explained that before the incident she had devised different means to surmount anger but all to no avail, adding that “if I come out of this mess, I will address the issue of anger”.
How could I have intentionally killed my own child? she queried emotionally.
Narrating the incident, Kafayat stressed ”
What happen is that during the last Eid-Fitr festival my children left the home and didn’t return untill after three days. When they returned, I wanted to beat them but the younger brother of my daddy said I should not beat them that I should leave them and I complied.
Despite granting them pardon, she continued “My children spent another three days out after the festival. I went to places in search of them but couldn’t find them. My younger brother later found them where they were but they ran away from him.
“It was when they returned after several days that I angrily locked them in and started beating them. One of the neighbours that came pleading that I should stop beating them was the one who called my attention that I had stabbed one of them.
Confused, Kafayat who has been seperated from her husband for over 10 years wondered how she got hold of the bottle with which she stabbed her child as she struggled to control tears that dropped down her chicks.
She appealed to mothers who take actions against their children out of anger to desist from such, adding that she wouldn’t want any woman to have such experience.
Kafayat also appealed to people living with anger to consult therapist in order to surmount it.
“I want the government to help me ,if I get any opportunity that I leave here I will make sure I take care of the rest and that nothing will happen to them.”
