The Former Managing Director, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, Babajide Odusolu .has challenged the state House of Assembly to conduct 10 years Forensic Audit on OPIC and make it public .
Odusolu who was the Special Adviser to former governor Ibikunle Amosun for eight years urged the Assembly to do the audit for two years before 2011 when he joined OPIC and two years after he left including the eight years he spent .
Odusolu , a property and Estate lawyer said this on Tuesday in Lagos when he spoke with newsmen on the allegations leveled against him on the missing N40 million .
Odusolu said it was pathetic that Amosun and himself should be celebrated for turning around OPIC to a highly competitive are being dragged to the mud for political scores .
He said he gathered that a forensic audit was done by Dapo Abiodun-led administration and did not indict him despite that he was never invited for his input during the audit .
He added that no one ever called him to accuse him of stealing OPIC money until recently when the Assembly alleged missing N40 million .
He said “When the current administration came to the office ,I was told , I was not there that a forensic audit was done on OPIC. Independent Audit firm came, checked all records and gave a report to the state government .
“I was not a party to the report , I was not invited to contribute to it , I was not indicted in anyway in that report, until this minute, nobody called me that you have a question to answer .
“The first time anybody will be mentioning the report to.me was when a House committee on Public Finance invited me.
“Not because of my sake but, for the sake of investing public , we need to be able to maintain the honour and integrity of OPIC as an entity .
” Let 10 years audit be done . Two years before I joined ,two years after I left. Audit the entire 10 years and make it public, at least, everybody will know that if truly who is telling the truth . am I the one that is correct or is it the outsider that says I look at the record and found that there is money missing .
“They have made themselves an interested party ,they have taken a position, they have attacked my person, we now need an independent third party to be the one to say this is actually the truth ,that is why I am calling for a forensic audit .”
On how he spent the OPIC money ,Odusolu said the money the Assembly was claiming it was missing was actually used for the construction of MITROS Residences .
He said, “This hotel has helped the government to save cost especially during occasions like the Africa Drum Festival, hosting of State Governors, Federal Government Delegations, Party Functions among others.
He stressed that the value of the facility in question as of today stands on excess of N1billion .
The Ex OPIC boss in his opinion said it is laughable that the State House of Assembly recommended that he should refund the amount spent on the construction.
His words “It is laughable that the House recommended a retroactive legislative approval for the construction of the edifice from OPIC or in the alternative, a refund of the amount spent on its construction by me in my personal capacity.”
