….IGP overruled Ogun gov on the seal of Amosun’s venue
It was a show of force between the incumbent governor of Ogun state ,Dapo Abiodun and the former governor , Senator Ibikunle Amosun, few hours to the commencement of the just concluded state congress of the All Progressives Congress .
It is not a news that the two factions produced two executives at the end of the paralleled Congresses .
A mild drama had earlier been displayed on Friday morning , following the closure and reopening of the Ake palace ground, the venue of the APC Congress by Amosun’s loyalists .
The police on the instruction, had sealed up the venue with a view to stopping the parallel congress by Amosun and his loyalists .
But, few hours after , the same venue was reopened by the police following another instruction from Abuja power that be .
The APC had been factionalised and the factions are being led by Abiodun and Amosun .
Two factional executives have emerged from the ward level to local governments and state levels during the Congresses .
PLATFORM TIMES had observed that there were series of attempts to block Amosun’s faction from going ahead with the parallel congress ,but, they failed .
While the governor’s faction had made the arrangement to hold its congress at the MKO Abiola stadium ,Kuto, Abeokuta, Amosun’s faction had chosen Ake palace ground for its own congress .
Parts of he events before the congress , the police had few hours to the congress issued a strong warning against violence before , during and after the congress .
The police in the release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi had announced MKO Abiola stadium as the only venue for the congress .
Consequently, the Ake palace venue was sealed in the reported order of the Chief Security officer in the state. But, in a dramatic move ,the police did not only reopen the venue for Amosun’s loyalists, they also deployed men and officers to protect them during the congress .
PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that Abiodun had almost succeeded in shutting out Amosun and his loyalists in the scheme of things following the order for the closure of the venue, but, Amosun reportedly activated his contact in the presidency and the venue was opened wide for him and his loyalists .
PLATFORM TIMES could not confirm the information that Amosun reached out directly to the Inspector General of Police ,but, it was gathered that the IGP gave an express order to the new Commissioner of police, Lanre Bankole to reopen the venue for Amosun.
The reopening order of Ake palace ground angered the governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the state as he considered the development as an attempt to undermine him and his office.
This action reportedly prompted him to read the riot acts to Amosun and his loyalists on his extent of power in the state .
Shortly before the governor displayed his anger over the parallel congress , some hoodlums believed to be sympathetic to him had reportedly invaded the Air venue and rained gunshots into the air .
The gunmen who were said to have come without masked were said to have been captured with a drone camera disrupted the congress temporarily .
Reacting to the violence many Amosun loyalists condemned the invasion ,urging the governor to use his “fullest extent of the law ” to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
