A Non-Governmental Organization, Derinsola Abiola Foundation has disbursed over N2 million to empower 110 market women in Ogun State.
The foundation said the move was to help market women in the state grow their existing businesses and help few others start small businesses which can sustain them and their family members.
The founder, Derinsola Abiola said, the foundation empowers market women with N20,000 each to support their businesses.
Abiola said she considered to give support to small and medium enterprises because it played a vital role in growing the nation’s economy.
She said “It was my birthday on 14th of November and weeks before, I decided that to commemorate it , I would do something I had been thinking about for several months. As I’m certain we all know there has been a lot of interest in women’s empowerment in recent times. This is because studies have shown that when empowered, women invest in the home and work hard to develop others.
“The purpose of this fund is to help selected beneficiaries either start small businesses which can sustain them or grow their existing businesses.
“Small and medium enterprises play a vital role in any economy and I considered it a duty to give as much support as I possibly can to as many people who require it, so help me God”.
