Speaking on the theme ” Alternative media for Good governance and National security- possibilities and challenges”
.the BON boss said corruption had already reduced due to the alternative media.
He explained that people who have been stealing with impunity now know that with the alternative media almost everyone in the country is now a journalist.
He said with that public resources thieves know that ones the document or evidence of stealing gets into the hand of an individual with the alternative media in a little time the whole world is aware unlike the coventional media where a lot of factors will have to be looked at first before it is published.
According to him alternative media can help minimize corruption in the country and make citizens to come together and participate adequately in discussions.
His words”If government can harness the alternative media in a positive way, by nature, alternative media engage the participation, through the use of the social networking sites that each group belong to they use for example those on WhatsApp, the social networking site, those on Facebook, simultaneously they can disseminate information, that is participation and as they are disseminating that information people are reacting, people are talking about it, people are giving advice, that is an example of how government can harness it for security purpose and for good governance.
“To me alternative media have come to stay and it has helped us most especially in this country to reshape so many things, social economic activities of Nigeria has reshaped through alternative media.
“This issue of embezzling with impunity is no longer there because somebody somewhere can get his/her hand on that document and before you know it,it is published.
“Anything you are doing as far as somebody can record you, somebody can take the document, you are in trouble and that as been productive in reducing the impunitive way people are stealing our resources or the way they just behave, the government can make use of the alternative media to minimize corruption, to make citizens to come together and participate adequately in discussions”.
