Drama broke out in a popular Omida market in Abeokuta , the Ogun state capital as some traders charged at a police officer in defence of a traffic controller on Monday.
PLATFORM TIMES reporter who witnessed the incident observed that the police officer whose identity could not be ascertained escaped being mobbed by the angry traders .
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the trouble startedon Monday when a traffic controller in Omida was coordinating the traffic and ordered the police officer to park properly.
The police officer reportedly ignored the advice by the traffic Warden and parked haphazardly which reportedly cause obstruction .
The development attracted some traders in the market which almost led mob action .
Explaining his role, the traffic controller who pleaded anonymity said “We are not allowed to stop a car that has a sticker, uniform or any other form of identification as an officer but the police officer has no means of identification on his vehicle ,but, threatens me from performing my duty”.
Some traders who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES said the officer picked up a fight with one Bunmi, a parking controller last week.
An eyewitness said the same police officer was seen fighting with a parking controller whose name was Bunmi last week.
“Now, he is mistaking him for the parking control officer on duty last week from his statement.
The police officer was quoted to have threatened the traffic controller that “I will make you pay for last week incident'”.
Some traders while charging with the police officer in defence of the traffic Warden said “You officers are always misusing your power.”
