Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Samson Odedina has disclosed that 40,000 small rural farmers will benefit from the State’s economic transformation project in the year 2022.
Odedina made this known while speaking to journalists after defending his Miinistry’s 2022 budget.
This according to him is part of the government’s plan to make the State’s agricultural sector a tool for economic transformation.
His words “Ogun State economic transformation project will also benefit about 40,000 small rural farmers”.
The Commissioner while speaking on what the government will do in the sector in the year 2022 revealed that the government will do more to support the private sector in the aspect of production and processing.
He added that, “people who have rice mill we are going to help them bring farmers and give them lands and train their farmers, we are going to pay more attention to traditional Agricultural facilities, Climate smart Agriculture, dams and irrigation and we are going to be focusing on intensive Agriculture, in house export promotion.
“This are the area of agricultural opportunities people in developing nations want to earn more from agriculture, we are going to be giving out large plantations to private sectors to manage while we provide enabling environment, we are going to focusing on high level infrastructure on the airport to assist our new status as a special agro processing Zone that was given to us by AFDB and we are also involved in some high level project, livestock project of the Federal government that will benefit 40,000 live stock Farmers.
“We have worked with 70,000 farmers in 7 value chain including cassava, rice, cocoa, oil palm and aquaculture, so we intend to double that in the coming year.
“All the biggest cassava buyers in Nigeria are located in Ogun State and that is why about half of the young people, emerging entrepreneur in our value chain activities are into cassava, industries using cassava in Ogun State they are no longer holding up, they are no longer liquidating.
