The Ifa worshipers in Ogun state have appealed to the Federal Government to give them a role so as to be able to tackle insecurity and other social vices bewildering the country.
The Ifa worshippers insisted that they have what it takes to bring the economy back to the old days and also solve many challenges Nigeria is currently facing.
Chief Ifashina Alasela, the Asegongo Ifa of Ilu-gun said this while speaking with PLATFORM TIMES on the plans for the yearly Ifa festival organised by the Sholola Asegongo family.
He stressed that sacrifices and worshipping of the oracle is still the reason there is little security in the country especially in southwest states.
Alasela who noted that worshiping of Ifa is not evil, appealed to the Federal Government to give importance to the worship of oracle across the country.
He added, “traditional worshippers pray to the gods every day for peace in the society, that is one of the reason the government should give regards to us.
“What we beg for is that government should allow us participate in governance.”
Speaking on the Shoola Asegongo Ifa festival, Alasela explained that the celebration is in remembrance of their father, Lamidi Shoola who had contributed “immensely” to the growth of traditional religion in Ogun state.
He further explained that since 2009, the family converge yearly to celebrate the tradition their father left behind.
He however said the celebration which will take place between 28th and 30th of January, 2022 would have popular musicians like Sefiu Alao, Remi Aluko, among others as guest artists.
While there will be two days specifically for “Isese”, Alasela revealed that the reception and grand finale will take place at the Abeokuta Sport Club in Oke-Ilewo.
He further said, “this festival that we want to do serves as a remembrance for the late Ishola Lamidi Shoola the child of Asegongo. All the family members and friends want to come together to celebrate it at the Abeokuta Sport Club. On the last Sunday of this month. The festival will start from Friday till Saturday while feasting will take place at the Abeokuta Sport Club in Oke Ilewo.
“Some of the hosts of this festival are Chief Ifaseyi Aremu Asegongo, Akogun Onifa of Egbaland, Chief Shakotun Alasela Asegongo the Shakotun Onifa of Egbaland and Ifawunmi Adisa Asegongo.
“I can say that our family is one of the important Ifa practitioners in Egbaland because we are pioneer in it and those practising it in our family are more than 26.
“Ifa festival is celebrated by our forefather every year in his lifetime since when we were young.”
