Former military president Ibrahim Babangida and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed door meeting in Minna , Niger state .
The meeting occured barely occured a month after he publicly endorsed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the best person to be president of Nigeria in 2023.
Tinubu who has declared his life ambition to be president was received in a closed door session by the former military president in a closed door session.
PLATFORM TIMES however reports that there was no news of an endorsement after the meeting .
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting with Babangida, Tinubu said he got the latter’s blessings for his aspiration.
The APC national leader said that he was in Niger State to condole with the government and people of the state and as such used the opportunity to visit with Babangida.
He stated, “if you restrict my visit to this house that is it. Generally, I came to Niger State to commiserate with the Governor and the people of Niger State. And so, I can’t stop by without paying a courtesy call to the enigma General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Retired”.
Asked if he got Babangida’s blessings, Tinubu said “he gave me his prayers. You want to know the outcome of the consultation? We are running a democracy”.
On his ambition, he said “I took my decision voluntarily and I am running for the Presidency of the country, we are running a democracy, thank you very much and God bless you”.
“When I made the declaration, I told you that I am still consulting and I will consult as widely as possible,” he further added.
Babangida had while receiving a delegation of canvassers for Osinbajo on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021 had said:
“Osinbajo has great passion for Nigeria, he is one that can communicate with the country and inspire people among other qualities; he is the best person to lead Nigeria in 2023.”
