PlatformTimes reporter, Abdulqudus Ogundapo has been conferred a national recognition for his outstanding reportage on raising awareness on epidemic preparedness and disease outbreaks in the country.
The award, organised by Nigeria Health Watch will be presented to our reporter on Friday, February 4, 2022 in Abuja.
Ogundapo on Thursday was announced winner of the Print/Online News category of the Prevent Epidemics Journalism Award 2021/2022.
Ogundapo who heads PlatformTimes Investigative and Fact-Check Desk would also be invited to speak on a live programme in a radio station in Abuja.
His Investigative report titled ‘How poor funding, low technology hinder local COVID-19 vaccine production’ is the winning entry for the Print/Online News category of the Prevent Epidemics Journalism Award.
In his report, he tracked the abandoned federal vaccine production laboratory, yaba that has been abandoned since 1991.
He also featured researchers in medical laboratory science and traditional medicine practitioners where they lamented low government patronage.
“Nigeria Health Watch is an advocacy organisation with the aims and objectives of creating public awareness on epidemic funding and proactive respond by the Nigeria government.
“We are currently implementing a project that is targeted at “Preventing epidemics through public awareness and advocacy for sustained funding to improve epidemic preparedness in Nigeria”.
“The overall goal and objective of this project is to build public and policymaker awareness and demand for epidemic preparedness funding increases at the federal and state levels.”
