Traders at two popular markets in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital are risking their health following the poor state of toilet facilities in the markets.
The two markets affected are Kuto and Omida markets .
PLATFORM TIMES’s visit to the two markets showed that while one has its own toilet facilities faulty ,the other is functioning but unhygienic .
When PLATFORM TIMES visited
Kuto Market , it was discovered that the toilet facility is situated at an environment that can endanger the traders’ health.
The disease-laden toliet before being allowed to be used ,payment of
#30 is made for urinating while #50 is collected from anyone who wants to defecate .
The toilet whose washing hand basin’s had it’s white colour turned brown was still being used by the traders which it was observed could lead to contracting infection or disease
Also, it was further observed that the drainage system is faulty and that has resulted to some toilets facility being abandoned
However, at the Omida market, our correspondent observed that the environment of the toilet was dirty and the toilet facilities have been locked, hereby leaving the traders no other choice than to defecate or urinate inside a nylon and then dispose openly on the ground
PLATFORM TIMES reporter spoke with a trader who said the toilet wasn’t operating advising our reporter who gave the impression of being pressed to make use of either the bank or fine somewhere available to ease herself.
