A house owner identified as Prince Saliu on Tuesday accused six of his tenants of abusing his property and not taking payment of their house rent seriously.
Saliu dragged his tenants before an Ogun state customary court sitting in Agbeloba , Abeokuta, alledging that the tenants failed to vacate his house after he had served them quit notice.
The tenants, Olagboye Ibukun, Elegbede Azeez, Azeem Eniola ,Dapo Okikiade, Oyenekan Oluwasegun and Toheeb Salami rented apartment in Soliu’s house located at No 10, Okilu road, Japo, adigbe, Abeokuta.
The house owner while speaking before president of the court, Hon. Bamidele Ali explained that he served his tenants quit notices because he wanted to renovate his house.
He noted that he had served the tenants quit notices since August 2021, urging the court to compel the tenants to vacate his building.
In their defence, the tenants who denied receiving the quit notices claimed that they had never met with the house owner.
They insisted that the quit notice was offered to them by the house owner but they refused to sign the agreement.
While some of the tenants claimed they were not aware because they had gone to their work places, others argued that the house owner dropped the quit notices on the floor when they refused to collect it from him.
They however explained further that they had informed the caretaker who rented the apartment to them, noting that the caretaker promised to convince the house owner from issuing the quit notice.
“The agent promised us that we would be retained that our landlord Just wanted to send some guys that disturb in the other flat to packing not until now when he brought a Sudden Seven days notice” The tenants argued.
The tenants however pleaded for the grace of two months before vacating the building to get another apartment.
Saliu, the house owner therefore granted the plea of his tenants, requesting that they would pay for extension.
In his ruling, the President Hon. Bamidele Ali granted the permission of both parties and gave the tenants the grace to stay in the house till 8th of May 2022.
