A former deputy governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Kaka has advised all political parties to review their ‘outrageous’ nomination form prices before the forthcoming 2023 election.
Kaka argued that it is a means of denying youths that are not financially bouyant but intellectually competent of moving the country forward the opportunity to contest in the election.
The former deputy governor said this on a radio program titled ‘2023: Osinbajo – Tinubu: Implications For South west’ on Rockcity 101.9 FM earlier today, as monitored by PLATFORM TIMES.
He said, “All the parties should review their outrageous fees before they can contest election.
“I don’t know, maybe before, or after the payment of the nomination form which many consider to be outrageous, to be highly discriminatory and to be something that is not taking consideration for the people, especially youths that are looking for job.
“Some of them can be better than those parading themselves, they might not be having jobs, yet if their Intellectual quotient is solid and they are ready, they are those who have experience but haven’t got money, then you ask them to come and pay N100 million, N50 million; that is totally uncalled for and is heavily loaded against a common man, in favour of the oppressors.”
“I understand that they are asking for that huge money because after the primary, they would go for general election which would take longer period, it will require money, but they can source for that money from elsewhere, not by encouraging the would-be aspirants to go and steal before they can pay the money for nomination. It is not acceptable.”
Kaka added that the huge amount could be a way to shortlist aspirants for the forthcoming election.
“Also, it could be a way of eliminating some contenders and naturally we know that there is crowd-out effect.
“But we must know that the most qualified are going to be the victim because if you work for your money, not stealing, not among those involved in illicit traits, then there is no reason you would wake up and say you want to gamble with N100 million/ N50 million. It is left to them but sincerely speaking, it remains uncalled for.”
