Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects while vandalising cables belonging to the IBEDC at Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated this on Tuesday, in his statement.
Oyeyemi said one of the local vigilantes made a call to the DPO Igbeba division, CSP Musiliu Doga who order his men to action.
The statement reads, “On the 1st of June around 2am, the suspects Odugwu Wisdom and Akorede Aregbe carrying out their notorious activities at an IBEDC transformer in the area were arrested as a result of the distress call put through by the local vigilante to the Igbeba divisional headquarters and received by the DPO.
“Having gotten informed, the DPO Igbeba division, CSP Musiliu Doga, swiftly led his patrol team to the area where Odogwu Wisdom, who came to the area on a motorcycle was arrested with already cut cable from the electricity installation in the area, while his other escaped.
“During the interrogation, Odogwu Wisdom came clean on how he and his gang specialised in stealing electric cable, he also mentioned one Akorede Aregbe whom the police went after and arrested as well as he was said to be one of their receivers.
Large quantities of cables suspected to have been stolen were recovered from the suspects as well as tools used for their illegal trade.
Oyeyemi added that the Ogun State commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ‘ordered the transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.’
