Founder of Roots Television, Dumebi Kachikwu, has emerged the flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The businessman and activist polled 978 votes to defeat former deputy CBN governor, Kingsley Moghalu who polled 589 votes from 2,040 accredited delegates.
The election held in the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta also saw Dr. Chukwuka Monye polling 339, Princess Chi Chi Ojei, 72 votes, Evang. Ebiti Ndok-Jegede 5 votes, Angela Johnson 1 vote.
In his acceptance speech, Kachikwu promised to run an all-inclusive government, and attract the best brains in various spheres of human endeavours to make the country great again.
The Delta State-born politician, who said he was on a ‘’rescue mission’’ to savage what the All Progressives Congress, APC, had destroyed in the last seven years, promised to initiate wide-ranging public service reforms to eradicate corruption and win the war against terrorism.
He promised to “secure Nigeria and the lives and properties of Nigerians in the North, South, East, and West of our country, if I emerge in 2023.”
The Convention Committee chairman, Rtd. Major-General Ekundayo Opaleye who announced the result, enjoined all other aspirants to work in harmony with the elected candidate.
Opaleye said the party is set to reengineer the political party system that is free of domination by money bags and godfathers, through transparency and accountability as well as propagate inclusion and diversity of values for women, youths, diaspora network and Persons with disabilities.
