Senator representing Ogun Central in the Ninth Assembly, Ibikunle Amosun has said that the Muhammadu Buhari administration is doing well but insecurity remains an impediment to its achievements.
Amosun spoke while addressing his supporters at his welcome party organized at the Ake palace ground in Abeokuta
Having visited the state for the first time after the APC Presidential primary election, Amosun thanked his supporters for their prayers and believing in his presidential aspiration.
Speaking on the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Amosun said security challenges have prevented people from seeing the beautiful things he has done.
Amosun went on to list challenges of the country which according to him will be addressed by the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC Presidential candidate as Presidents.
He said the current challenges are phases that will come to an end if citizens do their part and believe in Nigeria.
In his words, “When I listen to people saying this is a rubbish country, this is a bad country, Nigeria is not a bad country, Nigeria is not a rubbish country, Nigeria is a great country and it will be great but for Nigeria to be great, we need a great effort of all of us, no one person can do it alone, we need the collaboration and support of all Nigerians.
“So, when you do your beat and I do mine, that is the way Nigeria will be great, that is the way Nigeria will survive. I know there are challenges, there are security challenges, unemployment and others are not insurmountable, we will overcome all. Our youths are hardworking but the society has made them lazy, so much that able bodied men and women will wake up with nothing to do but asking what they can eat. This is not what Nigeria should be, this is not the way we were brought up, we will do the right thing.
“Trust me when I tell you, except for the security challenges, this administration is doing beautiful things, nothing good can come out from the atmosphere of insecurity, you can’t travel freely. We were discussing in Ekiti that those days, they will call us around 10pm for Bachelors eve in Ife, we will drive there and still come back home 2am, people cannot do that anymore but good times will return.
“Our health sector needs to be improved upon, People use to visit UCH Ibadan from all over Africa but look at what it is now, look at what is happening to us. Our agriculture no food security, look at how much food stuff costs now, but I know it is a passing phase, we will get there.
“Look at power, I got to Abeokuta this morning, they said there’s no power, I said no problem, we will get there. I said it during my campaign for the presidential election that the about 6000 megawatts, within one year or so, I know our party and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will increase it to about 15,000 megawatts and I said it is not enough to just generate 15000, we must transmit and distribute. I don’t see a reason why Nigeria should not even have 100,000 megawatts.
“A lot of things can be done, look at the exchange rate, how can a dollar be 605, they even said a pound is 750. We can only get out of this if we stop our consuming attitude, the idea of importing all that we consume, we have the wherewithal to manufacture; by the time we do this, we create wealth and job for our people. When our people are working, they will make money, they will not be running after foreign exchange.
“Nigeria will be great, Nigeria will be better. Our Presidential candidate will still be here for campaign, he will go around the entire Nigeria, when he comes, he will come and tell you all the goodies himself but he still needs our supports and prayers. we should not be discouraged by what is happening around, we should be incurable optimists. Together we will get to the state where Nigeria will be just, free, no ethnic or religious bias. We are on the right path, we will get there gradually.”
