Some mothers in Ogun State have said that their breast milk during the period of breastfeeding was meant for the babies and not the fathers.
Some of the nursing mothers who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES on Monday, said breast milk throughout the first six months of feeding their babies was ‘unhygienic’ for their husband.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed till six months of age.
They advised that breastfeeding must continue alongside suitable complementary foods for up to two years and beyond.
PLATFORMS TIMES gathered from breastfeeding mothers on how they manage the affairs of breastfeeding their babies and husband at the same time.
Abeeb Muheebat, who is a nursing mother and a fabric businesswoman, said fathers are to wait till the baby stop breastfeeding.
Muheebat noted that during the period of breastfeeding, the breasts contain milk meant for the babies only.
She however urged mothers to breastfeed their babies exclusively.
“Exclusive breastfeeding is good for the child and helps to build the brain. Also, it boosts immune systems including the antigens”, she said.
According to Adeola Kafilat, fathers need to know that during the period of breastfeeding, mothers need to be provided with enough supplements like provisions and food items that can strengthen her well.
Kafilat added, “And [fathers] not disturbing mothers or the baby about breast milk that is not meant for them.”
A businesswoman who is also a nursing mother, Adeyiga Tolulope stated that breastfeeding is a sweet experience to her, though it is not easy sitting for also 30 minutes to breastfeed her baby.
“As for me ooo, I don’t give my husband chance to suck my breast during breastfeeding period because I see it as unhygienic”.
She also advised breastfeeding mothers to eat very well if they want to engage in exclusive breastfeeding.
