Misturah Olatunji

Muslims in Ogun state have warned traditionalists against observing their Oro ritual in daylight in the State.

The Consultant to Ogun State governor on Islamic Matters and the Wakeelu Muslimeen South West, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal made this call in an interview with PLATFORM TIMES on Sunday.

The cleric said there is a need for the traditionalists to desist from such an action which he said was synonymous to depriving muslims of their fundamental rights .

He said the act would further hinder them from enjoying their freedom of movement unlawfully.

Lawal’s call was in reaction to the complaints of some residents in Idi-Iroko in Ipokia local government area of the state .

Some Muslims in a viral video by one of the leaders in the area had threatened that there might break down of law and order if the traditionalists continue to impose curfew on them .

The Islamic leader in Ipokia who lamented that the traditionalists have been imposing curfew on them , resisting their wives from moving about in the day , warned that except the government force the traditionalists to stop the act, there might be bloodshed.

Apparently reacting , Sheikh Ikeel Lawal said “traditionalists should not cause problems in Ogun State. Oro should not raid during daytime, they should not disturb people’s movement.

“This act is not guided by the Nigerian constitution nor by any law in Ogun State.

“They should not also forget that we have signed an undertaking that oro would not come out in the afternoon again in Idiroko and Ipokia LG.

“They should make this the last warning because we have both signed an agreement.

“Muslims do not cause problems, the traditionalists should not also cause any problem.”

He however commended the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole and Director-General, Department of State Security, for enforcing law and order to promote peace in the state.

“We commend the commissioner of police, the PPRO and the DG of DSS because they didn’t allow the imposition of curfew because of Oro during daytime at Idiroko and Ipokia local government to take place “.
