A former Minister of Transport and ex-member of the Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has urged warring parties in the PDP to embrace peace.
Babatope stated that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike remains an important member of the party, adding that his leaving the party will affect the PDP .
Wike is currently engaged in a political battle with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for refusing to pressure the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to drop his position for the sake of a “regional balance”.
PLATFORM TIMES recalls that Wike and
the former minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi are also at loggerheads with each other.
The battle line was drawn some days after the Party’s primary election was held in which both Wike and Amaechi were aspirants.
Babatope said the PDP elders should call for reconciliation, adding that failure to do so will have impact on the Party’s chance in the 2023 election.
Babatope made the call in an interview with the Punch newspaper in the previous weekend.
“I did not attend it (primary) because I was not well, but whatever it is, (Nyesom) Wike is an important member of the party. I don’t want to see Wike leave the party. I want to appeal to him and other members of the party to kindly come to terms with peace. We should allow the All Progressive Congress government to continue to remain in office and continue to smash Nigerians to pieces. People are dying of hunger and the security situation is bad. The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, knows that I love him. I worked with him when I was the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and I saw him as a very sincere person. I don’t want this (crisis) to continue because it is going to jeopardise the victory of the party. We want to return to power and rescue Nigerians from the hands of the APC.”
