As electoral campaign commences on Wednesday, political parties in Ogun State have shown confidence in their victories come 2023 election.
PLATFORM TIMES had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that electoral campaign will commence on September 28th.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that campaign posters have flooded streets, especially in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Speaking with PLATFORM TIMES on Monday, state chairmen of parties said they are all in the election to win.
The state chairman of Labour Party, Michael Ashade, said the People’s Democratic Party is only playing to the gallery.
Ashade added that the Party has confidence in its candidates, adding that “our candidates are not just contesting, they are contesting to win.”
He added, “PDP is only playing to the gallery. We are the real contenders.”
Meanwhile, the state chairman of the PDP, Sikirulai Ogundele stated that the PDP’s campaign would be issue-based, adding that “no abuse” would be encouraged.
Ogundele stressed that the party is well-prepared for the campaign, noting that “you will see us across the streets”.
He said, “As a political party, we are aware that campaign starts in two days and also, as a serious political party, I can confirm to you that PDP is battle ready, prepared.
He however appealed to opposition parties to refrain from war of words during campaign.
He said, “Like we have always been, we will be going out to do a thorough, fact-based campaign; no abuse. We are doing issue-based campaign.
“And that is what we also want to enjoy our opponent to do.”
He added, “Like I said, our candidates are ready and in two days, you will see us across the street.
“We are confidence of victory. It’s certain as it has been confirmed by the mood of the public.
“We are prepared to change the story for good people of Ogun State.”
Furthermore, in an interview with PLATFORM TIMES, the state chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party, Olaposi Oginni disclosed that the party is dominating local communities in the state.
Oginni further said the members of the party are in all the wards in the state.
He added, “We would make sure we tour the 236 wards of Ogun State. If we are able to achieve this, we would be the second person to do it as it was only OGD (Otunba Gbenga Daniel) who was able to do it and we can see that OGD performed in the state.
“We can see that it is a good strategy to adopt.”
PLATFORM TIMES reports the former Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State, Kehinde Sogunle, is the LP candidate.
While Hon. Ladi Adebutu has been identified by some party leaders as the PDP certified candidate.
Also, a former presidential aspirant, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo emerged the NNPP candidate.
The governorship hopefuls, along side others are in the race with the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate who is seeking reelection, govenor Dapo Abiodun.
