An Ogun State owned security outfit known as Social Orientation and Safety Corps on Monday said it arrested twelve illegal miners sabotaging resources of the state.
The security operatives arrested the illegal miners at Abeku Adekanmbi Village, a small settlement around Ijebu North Local Government area of Ogun State.
Soji Ganzallo, Commander of the corps made this known in a statement issued and made available to newsmen through the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Moruf Yusuf.
Ganzallo explained that the illegal miners were arrested last month when they were stealing mineral resources like coal and gold from under the ground.
“The operatives of Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, So-Safe Corps has on Wednesday 28th and Friday 30th September arrested twelve illegal Miners while stealing the the state government resources,” he said.
The Commander noted that the illegal miners have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
“Meanwhile, the arrested suspects had been transfered to the Nigeria Police, Ijebu Igbo Divisional Headquarters for onward transfer to the Ogun State Police Headquarter in Eleweran for further investigation and likely prosecution.”
