Abeokuta , the Ogun state capital has been under the siege of some gangs of kidnappers who reportedly operate in army uniform and behind the 35 Artillery Brigade ,Alamala Barracks .
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that several communities around the Baracks have been under the siege of 15-gang kidnappers who reportedly clad in Army Uniform and hid behind in the forest behind the Baracks .
Kidnap victims in the areas of Ibara-Orile, Oke-Ata, Soyooye and its environs in the Abeokuta-North local government area of Ogun state have disclosed that the kidnappers operating in the areas are dressed in army uniform and hid behind the army barracks.
Lamenting on their experiences as captives of the kidnap syndicate, some of victims revealed that the kidnappers are disguised as military men.
A source who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES lamented the incessant rate of kidnapping within the community describing it as a business for the kidnappers who after abducting their victims, collect huge amount of money to set their victims free.
The source said, “the kidnappers usually put on Army uniform, and that the kidnappers are up to 15 in number, while it also shows that they operate with AK 47 and AK 49 guns and those places truly share boundaries with army barracks, Alamala, Abeokuta Ogun State.
“It has also been confirmed that the kidnappers perpetrate those evil act where there are bushes and they use the bushes as hideout, escape route and as negotiating place by calling the families of their victims from the bush to negotiate payment of ransom before their family members could be released”.
Our source added that the communities are hence making efforts to discard the syndicates by ensuring that bushy areas are being cleared to prevent them from continually harbouring the kidnappers.
It was gathered that communique would be sent to the land and house owners in these bushes with an ultimatum of clearing the bushes and commencing building works on the landed properties.
Recently , a man was.kiked by these kidnappers who took away the wife and collected N2 million before she was released .
Many residents have become their 0reys who had paid for their ransom having taken away away from their homes .
