An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo Area of Abeokuta, on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year old man, Ojelade Akeem to one year imprisonment who has been known for his regular appearance before the court for cases of stealing
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Akeem and his colleague Opeyemi Afolarin were hired to do bricklaying work at Oke- Ibukun Area of Asero Abeokuta.
It was learnt that Ojelade ended up in stealing his colleagues’ motorcycle that was valued at N140,000 on the 10th day of July 2022.
I PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that Afolarin parked his TVS Motorcycle with REG. No OGUN DED 181, VN, by the corner where they were both working and had kept his ignition key on the window of the building in the site.
The Prosecutor, ASP Famuyiwa Matthew told the court that Ojelade collected the ignition key and took the motorcycle to Kajola town where he had planned to sell the motorcycle but unfortunately for him, the person that was to buy the motorcycle was not around.
Famuyiwa said “the convict then decided to embark on using the motorcycle for commercial transport.
“on that fateful day, after his day work and on his way back, getting to the Olomoro Area of Abeokuta, the motorcycle developed a fault by which he decided to fix it there.
“He was caught there by the police, arrested and taken to the Police Station.”
Before his judgement, the Chief Magistrate O.O Olusanya took his time to warn Ojelade who he said has become a regular defendant.
The magistrate said Ojelade had been appearing on regular basis before the court on different cases of theft,asking him to turn a new leaf.
