Not less than 50 schools have been reportedly derecognised by the Oyo State Ministry of Education for involvement in examination malpractices,PLATFORM TIMES reports .
In the just concluded 2022 West African Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE), 26 public schools and 24 private schools were enlisted for malpractices.
In the document obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, it was titled, ‘LIST OF SCHOOLS DERECOGNISED FOR INVOLVEMENT IN EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE DURING THE WASCCE FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES 2022’.
According to a source who claimed the educational vice of malpractices are as a result of proper welfare for teachers and staff, he pointed blame fingers at the school administrators saying poor remuneration and welfare packages make them vulnerable.
He added that bulk of students engaged in malpractices as a result of a failed academic system, noting that not all students are academically capable, hence, some students should be allowed to engage more practically than theoretically.
Further more, he urged parents to “buy textbooks, stationeries and other necessary materials for your children as and when due.
“Monitor your children studying at home. Secondary school curriculum is more voluminous most especially at senior secondary school level. Students really need to study extensively in order to excel in external examinations.” He submitted.
In the same vein, an educationist in Ibadan, identified as Gbadebo submitted that the state government has failed in the ramifications of the examination malpractices.
“When government fails to provide basic teaching equipment, it is a must for education to suffer. I wrote a paper two years ago and I complained about the effect of investing in examination malpractice in Oyo State.
“That is what is playing out now. The current government wishes to prove that it invested in education but failed to teach students. I hope we get it right,” he said.
