The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that 61 persons have died from 33 Road Crashes Involving 285 persons in the space of seven months in Borno.
It was also revealed that the 285 road traffic accidents involving 46 vehicles which happened between May to November 2022, left 151 people with different degrees of injury.
The Borno State Commander of the Corps, Utten Iki-Boyi made this known on Thursday in Maiduguri
He said the Borno-Maiduguri ghastly road accident which claimed 37 lives could be attributed to over speeding, reckless driving and use of expired motor tyres.
“This Ember month period is a period in which alot of people are travelling and a lot of vehicles are now moving on the roads because the raining season has ended, businesses have also picked up resulting to mass movement of people.
“I appeal to motorists, particularly drivers of commercial and other vehicles using the roads to always take it easy. They should always make sure that their vehicles are in good shape before embarking on any journey.
“If you are traveling a long distance, you should embark on the journey in good time so that you will not be over speeding.
The Sector Commander added that the major causes of the road traffic accidents are as a result of human error which could have been avoided.
He stated that compliance with the recommendations of the FRSC would help in preventing loss of lives and properties, while safe guarding the citizens.
“Most of the incidents we have been recording are due to human error. If all things are to be done according to recommendation of road safety corps, I am sure accident and death cases will be minimised to the barest minimum,” he said.
