Men of the local security outfits, Amotekun Corps in Ogun State on Thursday, said it arrested suspected cultists and one other who allegedly stole a sum of N156,000 and phones from one Sarpong Oluwatoyin in Iperu-Remo area of the state.
The suspects; Abiodun Aremu, Kamorudeen Olasunkanmi and one other with a nickname, Alubosa were arrested on 22nd November.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspects are members of Eiye Cult group terrorising the area.
The Amotekun boss, CP David Akinremi disclosed this in a statement obtained by PLATFORM TIMES.
Th3 statement reads; “One Sarpong Oluwatoyin of Iperu-Remo while sleeping on a sofa in her sitting room at Ojuroye Street, Iperu-Remo, suddenly heard an unusual movement. She immediately got up only to find out that her two (2) Android phones; one Techno POP 5 and a Nokia 3 valued at One Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand Naira (N156,000.00) had been stolen. The victim immediately raised alarm which attracted her neighbours and operatives of the Corps on patrol. The first suspect, Abiodun Aremu was arrested in a nearby bush where he had escaped into while his other two (2) accomplices escaped.
“He however on interrogation, took our operatives to a house in Ikenne where the second suspect Kamorudeen Olasunkanmi and the third suspect (still at large) both reside.
“On sighting our operatives, Kamorudeen Olasunkanmi and the third suspect popularly called Alubosa took to their heels while the said Alubosa dropped a bag containing the stolen items which was recovered by our operatives.
“The two arrested suspects are members of Eiye Cult group disturbing the peace of the community and earlier relocated from the town, when the heat on them by operatives of the Corps was unbearable, the two suspects admitted their involvement in several cult related killings in the last one year in Iperu and environs and the instant case of House Breaking and Stealing. They have been handed over to the Police SCID for further investigation and prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the Amotekun boss said the Corps was keen on fighting criminal elements in the state.
Akinremi said, “The Corps wants to again reiterate our commitment to fighting all forms of crimes and criminalities in the State and we shall leave no stone unturned in this regard before, during and after the yuletide period.”
